Karamea is a coastal town located some 100 kilometres north of Westport, on the wild West Coast. The Oparara Basin Arches, large natural river tunnels, are located in Karamea. Karamea is located 96km north-east of Westport and is the northern most settlement of a reasonable size on the West Coast. more
Karamea is secluded, located between the mountains and the sea and as such it offers excellent tramping, fishing, kayaking and caving. It is also the location of one end of the Heaphy Track which is one of New Zealand's nine great walks.
