Rangitoto is a remarkable island formed by a series of eruptions between 550 and 600 years ago. Situated out in the Hauraki Gulf, Rangitoto Island is an iconic and picturesque island highly visible from Auckland. Today Rangitoto is managed by the Department of Conservation and has been eradicated of pests like rats and mice allowing it to become a refugee for rare and endangered species like the saddleback birds. From Rangitoto's 260 metre high summit you can enjoy spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf.
