Palmerston North Accessible Travel
Palmerston North, home to Massey University, is a vibrant, youthful city with an active student population. Set at the foot of the Tararua Mountain Range, on the eastern Manawatu Plains, Palmerston North is a city of sophistication and diversity, yet with all the freedom and space of a provincial centre. more
Palmerston North, also known locally as "Palmy" is situated on the Manawatu River and is New Zealand's seventh biggest city. It was named in honour of Viscount Palmerston, a former Prime Minister of Great Britain.
The original Maori clearing in what was once predominantly a forest area is known as 'The Square' today and is the centre point of the city. It's a seven hectare park of lawn, trees, fountains and gardens. It is also the point from where the main streets of the city are arranged.
